Darwen Heritage Weekend Briefing Meeting

Darwen Town Council Heritage Open Days Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th September 2016

You are invited to attend the Briefing Day Tuesday 17th May at 6.30pm at Darwen Town Hall, Darwen

Darwen Town Council would like to “Open Darwen” during the National Heritage Open Days that will take place during 8th – 11th September 2016, and we would like to know if you wish to take part.

We’d love for you to join in this event – do come along to our briefing day to find out more.

If you do wish to get involved, then it is important that entrance to your venue must be free. However, this does not stop you from raising money in whatever way you like. You need to offer something special, for example, open a site or part of a site that isn’t usually open to the public.

Your opening or event needs to take place within the Heritage Open Days dates. However, your site doesn’t have to be open on all days or even for a full day. You can specify the date(s) and time(s) that you will be opened.

If you wish to take part in this important event then ‘you will need’ to register on Heritage Open Days website – (This is very straightforward process – we will explain this on the briefing day).

As Darwen Town Council will be producing publicity material then can you please let me know if you intend to get involved with the date(s) and time(s) etc.

Here are some ideas you may wish to consider:

  • Hold an exhibition of old photographs,
  • Guided Tours of your heritage site.
  • Have archives/registers available.
  • Highlight war or other heritage memorials.
  • Open up areas not normally available that are of special interest
  • Celebrate your heritage – dressing up in period costume – displays – music – entertainment.
  • Offer refreshments to raise a little money for your heritage site
  • Bell ringing

2016 is also the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Jutland

We are hoping to have an old Darwen double decker Corporation bus to take visitors around the heritage sites at least on one day – on heritage tour around the sites of Darwen.

If you require to discuss this further then please get back in touch.
